Statement on the Passing of Former Board of Education Director Jeannie Kaplan

Denver Public Schools Board of Education statement

The Denver Public Schools Board of Education extends our deepest condolences to the family of Jeannie Kaplan. Jeannie was a relentless advocate of public education, which led her to serve two terms on the Denver Public Schools Board of Education, representing District 3 from 2005-2013.

Jeannie was a tireless advocate for Denver’s students, educators and strong public neighborhood schools. She was a passionate champion for equitable and fully-funded schools and a vocal opponent of the privatization of public schools. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her love of the color red, her love for her family, and the wonderful music she shared as an accomplished pianist. Her two terms on the school board were a true testament to her commitment to improving working and learning conditions for students and educators in Denver Public Schools. Her legacy will continue to inspire us in our fight to provide every student with a high-quality and fully supported education, regardless of their background or zip code.

The Board of Education will honor Jeannie at a future meeting.
