Board Meetings

The Denver Public Schools Board of Education typically meets three times per month. All meetings are held at Emily Griffith Campus. All meeting dates, agendas and minutes, including archival information, can be found on BoardDocs.

Public Comment

The community is invited to attend meetings and provide public feedback at regular meetings. The Board holds public comment sessions after each regular meeting to listen to comments ranging from student achievement to budget policy to matters currently under consideration by the Board.

  • Individuals may only sign up once per public comment session, and they will be allotted 3 minutes to speak.
  • Groups will be allotted 10 minutes to present – individual group members may not be substituted, and they may only speak for 3 minutes each.

The finalized list of speakers will be posted to the public comment agenda by 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Speakers will receive an email with the Zoom link and the finalized speaker list by 3 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

Please plan your presentation in advance to ensure that it is as clear and concise as possible. Be prepared to email your comments to board@dpsk12.org in case we experience technical issues during the meeting.

When it is your turn to speak, you will be called upon by the President and you will be unmuted. Once the allotted 3 minutes are complete, you will be muted once again. At this point, you may leave the Zoom conference room. Due to limited staff resources, we will not be able to provide technical assistance in the event you run into technical issues.

Meeting Types

Regular meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m., which is followed by public comment at 5:30 p.m. The board votes on each month’s action items during this meeting.

You are invited to take part in our meetings virtually or in-person and become involved in the success of our schools and students. Due to the ongoing pandemic, in-person attendance will be limited to ten community members. Please notify the Board of Education Office at least 48 hours prior to the meeting of any special accommodations or translation services requests.

Focus on Achievement sessions are held on the first Thursday of each month. During these sessions, the board discusses topics such as our return to school and the Listen and Learn Tour.

Work sessions are held on the Monday prior to regular meetings. These meetings serve as an opportunity to prepare for the regular meetings and to study issues before voting.

Executive session is when the board may recess from a board meeting to a closed session for discussion. Topics to be discussed are limited to matters under the law such as personnel, real estate acquisitions, security or consultation with attorneys. All executive sessions are closed to the public. Board members may not vote during executive sessions.
