Denver Public Schools (DPS) Board member Lisa Flores and Superintendent Tom Boasberg had the opportunity to speak to the Highland United Neighbors Inc. (HUNI) on March 20, 2018. Included in the many topics discussed were the impacts of TABOR and Gallagher and how this affects school funding. Neighbors learned about the 100 plus community gardens accessible to DPS students and intentionally designed to help students understand the concept of farm to table. Tom and Lisa also discussed the district’s sustainability in the areas of recycling and energy.

Residents learned about the district’s commitment to student safety and what students’ expectations are regarding safety in DPS schools. Denver Police Department personnel were also at the meeting and complemented the district on the partnership and coordination during the student walkouts March 14.   Those present also discussed how HUNI could engage as a community in their neighborhood schools.  DPS and HUNI are eager to continue to explore this partnership and together work to put Students First.
