Kevin Patterson - District 4
Kevin Patterson received his Bachelor of Arts in teaching from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Kevin began his career as a classroom teacher in Houston, Texas, where he taught seventh-grade for the Aldine Independent School District. Kevin is also a graduate of the University of Colorado where he earned two master’s degrees, one in Public Administration and the other in Urban and Regional Planning.
As a public servant, Kevin has worked in numerous positions over his 18 year career. Kevin worked for Governor Roy Romer handling constituency and legislation. Next, Kevin moved on to work in the Budget and Management Office for the City and County of Denver for six years. He then spent five years as the Operations Director for Denver's Community Planning and Development Department. Kevin originally worked in Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s administration as one of the two Deputy Managers for the Denver Department of Human Services. Now, Kevin serves as a member of Mayor Hickenlooper’s Cabinet as Manager of the Department of General Services. Parts of Kevin’s duties include serving on the Denver Metro Convention and Visitor’s Board as an ex-officio member, as well as one of the Denver’s County Commissioners.
Kevin serves in a number of volunteer community positions. He was first elected to the Denver Board of Education in November 2001 and was reelected, running unopposed, for his second term in 2005. Kevin is completing his second three year term as a Director on the Colorado Association of School Boards. Kevin also serves on the Goodwill Industries of Denver Board of Directors.
Most importantly, Kevin is a father of two sons in Denver Public Schools. Coming from a family steeped in education, he works tirelessly to improve the current public education system for all children. Kevin continues to explore innovative strategies and collaborative efforts to sustain sound and competitive educational programs. Kevin knows that all students can succeed.
